How to prepare your business for Windows 7 end of life
Windows 7 end of life is January 14th, 2020. What does that mean? It means Microsoft will no longer publish updates and security patches for computers running Windows 7.
While it is highly possible that you can survive not getting new features, you definitely can NOT survive being out of date when it comes to security patches. When security patching stops, hackers can enjoy security holes for life and the presence of antivirus solutions might not be as effective as it should be.
So how can you prepare for this?
You’ll need to upgrade to Windows 10. The following steps will outline what you’ll need to do:
- Make sure your hardware meets the recommended requirements of Windows 10. It might be necessary to get new hardware.
- Make sure any software you use is compatible with Windows 10 and that you have all licenses, installation media or files.
- Make sure any attached hardware is compatible with Windows 10 (Printers, Scanners, etc..)
- Decide what type of Windows license you need (Home, Pro, Enterprise,…)
Don’t wait until it is too late. A system failure can be very costly. Plan accordingly and be prepared.
